Elementary Student Relations Supervisor

Supervisor: Principal and/or Assistant Principal

Job Summary: The responsibility of the Student Relations Supervisor is to assist the building administrators with creating a safe and secure school environment for students, staff, and the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide daily supervision outside before or after school. Supervise students during lunch in the cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, and parking lot as assigned by the building administrators.
  • Document and communicate to the building administrators all student disciplinary issues and situations that arise within the school, including the relevant details.
  • Possess and maintain knowledge of the District’s policies and procedures pertaining to students.
  • Possess and maintain knowledge of the contents of the Student/Parent Handbook.
  • Assist the District and its administrators and staff in enforcing all policies in the Student/Parent Handbook.
  • Assist the District, its administrators, and staff in promoting positive school/community relations.
  • Act as a liaison between the District parents and the community.
  • Provide leadership and direction to students and assist them with developing a positive self-image.
  • Serve as a witness in student disciplinary proceedings.
  • Assist law enforcement in all matters associated with student discipline, student and staff safety, and building security in the District.
  • Assist with duties assigned to the building Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Respond to student behavioral crises and assist with de‑escalation using trauma‑informed and restorative practices.
  • Support implementation of school wide PBIS, CHAMPS/STOIC, restorative practices, and behavior intervention systems.
  • Provide proactive supervision and intervention for students demonstrating behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
  • Assist administrators and support staff with crisis intervention, student escorts, classroom removals, and re‑entry support.
  • Facilitate restorative conversations, problem‑solving conferences, and student reflection activities following behavioral incidents.
  • Build positive relationships with students identified as needing additional behavioral or emotional support.
  • Collaborate with PBIS team, teachers, social worker, special education staff, and administrators to implement consistent behavior support strategies across settings.
  • Assist in supervising and supporting students during regulated breaks, reset/refocus periods, alternative placements, or restorative room interventions.
  • Support re‑teaching of school wide expectations, social‑emotional skills, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Conduct student check‑ins/check‑outs and provide mentoring support for students requiring additional behavioral assistance.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a safe, structured, and positive school climate.
  • Serve as a first responder to behavioral incidents and actively assist with de‑escalation, student regulation, classroom support, and crisis response throughout the school day.
  • Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Must meet all requirements for the position as designated by the ISBE
  • Preferred:
    Paraprofessional Certificate - 60 hours of college credit or passing scores on a Basic Skills test

Experience

  • Two years of school‑based experience is preferred

Other

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records.
  • Ability to react quickly and professionally to student behavior/conduct issues.
  • Strong student supervisory skills and ability to keep order within areas supervised.

  • Salary and Benefit information can be found on the Human Resources webpage. There are many opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation (stipends, differentials, extra duty pay, etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer.
  • This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
  • This is not an exempt position.
  • Student Contact Days and other days stipulated on the work calendar in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support personnel.
