The Actuarial Science and Risk Management program in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign invites applications for an Instructor or Lecturer. This position is a one-year appointment; renewal of the position is contingent on availability of funding, positive performance reviews and sufficient course enrollments.
Duties- Preparing and teaching actuarial science and risk management content for corresponding courses, including large service courses and small discussion sections.
- Monitoring and mentoring teaching assistants and graders for these courses.
- Holding regular office hours to meet with students outside of class time.
- Writing and grading examinations and assigning grades.
- Developing and maintaining curriculum and stewardship material for these courses, and willingness to undertake additional responsibilities as the undergraduate director, as needed.
- ABD or hold a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science or related areas such as Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance or another subject appropriate for Actuarial Science, with a record of teaching effectiveness or professional training at the graduate and undergraduate levels (Instructor).
- Ph.D. in Actuarial Science or related areas such as Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or another subject appropriate for Actuarial Science, with a record of teaching effectiveness or professional training at the graduate and undergraduate levels (Lecturer).
- 3+ years of college teaching or similar corporate training experience.
- Experience with actuarial professional exams.
- Professional credentials such as the Associate or the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, etc.
This is a 100% full-time academic position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is January 1, 2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $58,. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
