Associate Director, Student Engagement

Serves as member of the leadership team of the Department of Student Engagement, a unit within the Student Success, Inclusion, and Belonging area of Student Affairs dent Engagement comprises the Student Organization Finance Center (SOFC), Student Organization Development and Administration (SODA), Student Sustainability, and Student Governance. Supervise all SODA functions, including direct supervision of Assistant Directors. Responsible for assessing risk as it relates to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and their activities.

Further, this position will develop and coordinate risk prevention education for RSOs and other relevant student engagement experiences, as well as play a key role in Student Engagement policy development, research, and assessment.

Duties & Responsibilities Risk Management
  • Develop a comprehensive process for assessing risk related to RSO events and engaging RSO event planners in educational conversation regarding risk management and compliance with university and facility policies.
  • Train and engage SODA staff on first level review of events.
  • Conduct further review of events that are flagged by SODA staff after first review.
  • Conduct meetings with RSO event planners and relevant university partners to review identified areas of potential risk.
  • Develop and implement educational programs regarding risk prevention for RSOs.
Student Engagement Administration
  • Provide direct supervision of Assistant Directors and office support staff.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the SODA functions, as well as the office suite.
  • Advise the Student Election Board.
  • Represent Student Engagement on relevant division and university committees.
  • Assist with the implementation and coordination of university-wide student organization engagement initiatives (e.g. Quad Day).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Policy Review and Development
  • Conduct regular reviews of current departmental and RSO‑related policies and make recommendations, as needed, for revision.
  • As needed, develop new policies to help ensure developmental and efficient management of all matters related to RSOs (e.g. registration, event‑planning, etc.).
Assessment
  • Serve as primary contact for departmental assessment initiatives.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan for Student Engagement assessment; lead the department in enacting the plan.
  • Assist with annual report submission.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience:

    A total of four (4) years (48 months) in education, training and/or work experience in nonprofit management, project or event management, and/or risk assessment or management. (

    Note:

    Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:

    Master's degree, preferably in higher education administration, organizational leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience:

    Experience supervising full‑time professional staff.
  • Experience planning events.
  • Experience assessing the risk involved with various activities.
  • Experience managing risk to ensure a high level of safety and security for events.
  • Experience developing and leading training, workshops, or other educational programs.
  • Experience coordinating projects with stakeholders across multiple areas/units.
  • Ability to interpret policy, exercise keen judgment, engage in problem‑solving, and adapt to changing conditions successfully.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build solid relationships with campus partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple and complex priorities within a fast‑paced environment where interruptions may be frequent.
  • Knowledge of student organization/engagement management software.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full‑time Civil Service 5002 – Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12‑month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 9/7/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $72,000 – $76,000.
