Assistant Director for International Programs - College of Fine & Applied Arts Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Programs and working in conjunction with the Senior Associate Director of International Programs, the Assistant Director of International Programs manages the development and execution of semester, summer, and short-term international programs for the College of Fine and Applied Arts (FAA) and advises FAA students on global education opportunities er aspects of global education programming, such as scholarships, exchange student programming, or outreach activities, may be assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities Program Coordination
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of education abroad including short-term faculty-led, semester, and summer-length programs.
  • Administer all levels of assigned program portfolio, including program creation and maintenance in the online study abroad administration database, program budget creation and monitoring, staying current on on-site student support and accommodations services, and managing relations with relevant international, domestic, and on-campus partners.
  • Evaluate and implement changes to current education abroad administration policies, practices, and procedures and document individual program management guides for each program.
  • Serve on relevant campus and college-level committees dealing with education-abroad initiatives.
  • Assist with FAA participation in campus events, such as Illini Fest, Illinois Abroad, and International Education Week.
  • Lead events such as Pre-departure and Re-entry programs, Study Abroad Fair, and International Exchange Student events.
  • Collaborate with an assigned portfolio of academic units in FAA and assist the International Programs staff with the development of new programs that serve departmental needs.
  • Coordinate and administer on-campus projects and initiatives relating to education abroad.
  • Collaborate with FAA Communications to develop and create informational materials, web content, and marketing materials for international programming.
Education Abroad Program Advising
  • Primary college contact for students who contact FAA Undergrad Affairs via phone, email, or drop-in for questions regarding study abroad.
  • Hold regular advising hours both in-person, online, drop-in hours, unit embedded, etc.
  • Oversee student study abroad advising on program requirements, overseas coursework, travel planning and logistics, and other concerns.
  • Recruit students considering study abroad, including making presentations to classes and other venues and coordinating informational sessions.
  • Organize pre-departure and returnee informational and advising sessions.
  • Develop and maintain informational and promotional materials for education abroad programs and resources available on campus to enable their participation in said programs.
Campus Committees
  • Serve on campus committees for Illinois Education Abroad
  • General support for international programs office
  • Other duties assigned to further the mission of the unit.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A total of one year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in coordinating events, programs, projects, trainings, and/or experiences.
  • Demonstrated experience travelling, studying, and/or living abroad.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in fine and applied arts, education, international fields, or related areas preferred.
  • One year experience developing programming for education abroad, experiential learning, or other educational programs.
  • Experience managing international education experiences or projects.
  • Experience with student development and/or community engagement in higher education or a professional organization.
