The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is searching for two Global Learning Specialists. The LAS Student Academic Affairs Office (SAAO) supports the academic, personal, and professional development of every student. Through collaborations across academic advising, academic achievement program, career services, first year experience program, honors program, and international programs, we support students, promote inclusive dialogue, recognize diverse experiences, and encourage them to design experiences that enable their success.

Manages the operational and instructional backbone of one or several of the College's Global Learning programs and courses, including LAS 291/292, LAS 100, LAS 399, the Global Leaders Program (GLP), and Global Classrooms. The role combines curricular ownership - teaching, TA supervision, and curriculum development - with course administration and, where assigned, campus and partner liaison work, under the direction of the Associate Director for Global Learning.

• Teaching & Curriculum
  • Teaches up to four courses within the Global Learning portfolio each year, as assigned by the home unit.
  • Reviews and revises course curriculum to reflect student needs and program goals and supports the Associate Director with curriculum development.
  • Steps in to teach, grade, and provide feedback for individual course sections directly when staffing needs require it.
  • Leads regular TA meetings and a structured onboarding and training sequence at the start of each term.
  • Coaches TAs on course philosophy and pedagogy and supports TAs navigating unfamiliar cultural or international contexts as relevant to the assigned program.
  • Monitors section progress and TA performance and resolves student or TA issues that require escalation.
  • Schedules all course sections for assigned programs and manages related enrollment, including tracking adds, drops, and withdrawals.
  • Submits and corrects final grades, and generates grade, audit, and participation reports to monitor student progress.
  • Builds and maintains course records, rosters, and Canvas or other learning management system materials for assigned courses each term.
  • TA Recruitment, Training, Supervision
    - Hires, trains, supervises, and assesses the performance of teaching assistants supporting assigned Global Learning courses.
• Program Coordination & Partnerships
  • Coordinates program logistics, including signature events and activities, for assigned Global Learning programs.
  • Works with relevant campus offices, such as the Registrar, International Safety and Security, CITL, and ATLAS, on instructional design, delivery, and enrollment troubleshooting.
  • Liaise with campus and partner-institution contacts relevant to assigned programs, sharing best practices and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
• Program-Specific Duties (as assigned)
  • Support the LAS International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) and its activities.
  • Coordinate SEAS Scholarship recipient selection and required check-in meetings for LAS 291/292.
  • Administer the Safety and Security Re-Entry survey and coordinate Safety Abroad Seminar logistics for LAS 291/292.
  • Manage a portfolio of Global Classrooms (COIL) courses, including faculty development and instructional support for COIL courses offered by LAS faculty.
• Other duties as assigned that further the mission of the unit.

• Master's degree in humanities, social science, international studies, education, or a related field.
• Two (2) years (24 months) of teaching or instructional experiences in intercultural, international, global education courses or related curricular areas.
• One (1) year (12 months) of demonstrated professional experience coordinating educational curricula, programs, events, or research projects at the undergraduate level. Years can be concurrent.

• PhD in international education, curriculum design, or a related field.
• Two (2) years (24 months) of professional work experience with global or intercultural learning courses in a higher education setting.
• Demonstrated experience in instructional design using Canvas or a similar learning management system (LMS).

• Knowledge of University of Illinois education abroad programs and LAS Global Perspectives courses.
