We are confidentially seeking a Senior Project Manager, Preliminary Roadway Design Lead to join a growing roadway practice in Illinois.
This opportunity is designed for a senior transportation engineer who wants to stay actively involved in the work while expanding leadership, influence, and visibility. This is not a role that sits above the details.
We are looking for someone who leads from the front, shapes early project decisions, and is trusted by agencies and internal teams alike.
The organization is known for strong internal structure, technical depth, and long standing relationships with public agencies across Illinois. Senior project managers are given real ownership, supported by experienced teams, and trusted to deliver complex work at a high level.
What you will be responsible for
- Lead transportation projects aligned with experience level, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and direct coordination with stakeholders.
- Provide leadership for roadway geometrics, feasibility studies, conceptual design, and preliminary alternatives to support Phase I and NEPA environmental documentation.
- Work directly with municipalities, state agencies, and tollway authorities. Support and participate in public involvement programs and agency meetings.
- Prepare and review cost estimates, technical memoranda, reports, and approval documentation required for public agency review.
- Mentor engineering staff, manage workload planning and production scheduling, and contribute to long term team growth and technical strategy.
- Identify technical and delivery challenges and implement practical, experience driven solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Experience needed
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
Professional Engineer license
Minimum of 10 years of experience with IDOT and Phase I transportation projects
Strong working knowledge of Micro Station, Open Roads, and GEOPAK
Experience coordinating directly with public agency stakeholders
Business development exposure through client relationships and pursuits
Preferred qualifications
Master’s degree with a Transportation focus
