OverviewThe Energy Sense Resilience Center (Energy Sense) is seeking a Visiting Energy Specialist to conduct energy and sustainability site assessments, generate assessment reports, develop educational materials, and promote best practices in energy, sustainability, and Energy Sense programs. The role is based in Champaign, Illinois, with a hybrid work option.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesTechnical Analysis
- Perform facility energy benchmarking, identify data patterns, and develop cost‑saving and resilience measures.
- Estimate potential emissions reductions, renewable energy generation, and other sustainability metrics.
- Conduct site visits to support technical analyses.
- Produce client‑facing reports detailing costs, savings potential, and available funding sources.
- Research efficient technologies and current sustainability practices for educational outreach.
Outreach
- Promote Energy Sense programs through workshops, webinars, conferences, and regional events.
- Build and expand the client base via networking and direct contact.
- Develop educational materials for presentations, publications, and digital media.
- Participate in planning and implementation of workshops and discussion groups.
Operations
- Track and report specific program activities.
- Follow‑up with clients regarding project implementation.
- Other duties as assigned to advance Energy Sense mission.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, or related field.
- Experience conducting spreadsheet‑based energy analysis, calculations, or related modeling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a closely related field.
- 2–5 years of professional experience in engineering, architecture, building science, or energy engineering research.
- Certified Energy Manager or similar certification.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain it during employment.
- Experience performing energy assessments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong research and analytical abilities to develop conclusions and recommendations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web‑based information management tools.
- Willingness to travel in‑state for site visits and use assessment tools.
- Excellent organizational skills, including time management, task prioritization, and deadline management.
- Team collaboration skills.
- Full‑time academic professional position.
- Expected start date:
July 16, 2026. - Salary range: $70,000 – $85,000.
