Position: Visiting Energy Specialist (Hybrid)

Visiting Energy Specialist (Energy Sense Resilience Center, University of Illinois)

Energy Sense is a center dedicated to providing practical solutions for climate, energy, and sustainability. This role supports the mission by conducting energy and sustainability assessments, generating reports, creating educational materials, and educating clients.

Duties and Responsibilities Technical Analysis
  • Perform technical energy and sustainability analysis, including facility energy benchmarking, data pattern identification, resilience and cost‑efficiency measures, emissions reductions estimates, renewable energy generation, and related calculations.
  • Conduct site visits to support technical analyses.
  • Produce client‑facing reports detailing costs, savings potential, and funding sources for recommended projects.
  • Research efficient technologies and sustainability practices to produce educational materials and ensure accurate analysis methods.
Outreach
  • Promote awareness of Energy Sense programs through workshops, webinars, conferences, and other regional events.
  • Expand Energy Sense’s client base through networking and direct client contact.
  • Develop educational materials for presentations, workshops, publications, and digital media.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of workshops, webinars, and discussion groups.
Operations
  • Track and report specific program activities.
  • Follow up with clients regarding project implementation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to further the mission of Energy Sense.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting spreadsheet‑based energy analysis, calculations, modeling, or related work.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, or a closely related field.
  • 2–5 years of professional experience in engineering, architecture, building science, energy engineering research, or a related field.
  • Certified Energy Manager or similar energy certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to retain it while in this position.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Knowledge of or experience with performing energy assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research and analyze information and data to make appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and web‑based information management tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel in‑state for site visits; carry and use site assessment tools and work safely around facility mechanical systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including time management, task prioritization, follow‑through, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Team‑work ability.
Appointment Information
  • Full‑time academic professional position.
  • Expected start date: 7/16/2026.
  • Salary range: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00.
