A fast-growing, privately held real estate investment, development, and operating firm based in Chicago is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead and own its accounting function. The company manages a growing portfolio of commercial and industrial assets and operates with a lean, entrepreneurial structure where decisions are made quickly and leadership stays close to the business.
This role will work closely with ownership, a fractional CFO, property management teams, and external partners while directly running day-to-day accounting operations.
Responsibilities Accounting Operations- Maintain daily visibility across approximately 30 bank accounts
- Record journal entries and transactional activity across multiple properties and entities
- Manage high-volume accounts payable and receivable processes
- Oversee invoice processing, payments, collections, and deposit activity
- Initiate ACH and wire transactions and manage bill pay within Yardi
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
- Perform bank and loan reconciliations across entities
- Record loan payments and track principal, interest, and escrow balances
- Manage intercompany activity, reimbursements, and management fees
- Prepare ownership reporting and past-due rent updates
- Support cash planning and distribution processes
- Assist with budgeting, CAM reconciliations, and property reporting
- Coordinate 1099 preparation and support external tax advisors
- Manage real estate tax payments and required annual filings
- Support audits, refinances, acquisitions, dispositions, and new entity setup
- Serve as owner and administrator of Yardi as the accounting system of record
- Improve workflows and reporting processes where appropriate
- Maintain visibility into receivables, payables, and cash positions
- Support leadership with ad hoc analysis and financial insights
- Strong working experience with Yardi required
- 7+ years of progressive real estate accounting experience preferred
- Experience managing multiple properties and legal entities simultaneously
- Comfortable owning close, reporting, cash management, and compliance processes
- CPA is a plus but not required
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
