ResponsibilitiesThe Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing banquet and event operations to ensure exceptional guest service and successful event execution. This role provides direct supervision of banquet staff during events, ensures adherence to service standards, and serves as the primary point of contact between management, culinary teams, and event hosts.
- Supervise banquet servers, bartenders, and house persons during event setup, service, and breakdown.
- Review and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) to ensure accurate event execution.
- Conduct pre‑shift meetings to review event details, service expectations, and assignments.
- Oversee proper room setup according to diagrams and event specifications.
- Ensure food and beverage service is executed professionally and efficiently.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and promptly address concerns or special requests.
- Coordinate timing of courses and service flow with culinary staff.
- Ensure compliance with alcohol service laws and company policies.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards in banquet areas.
- Assist with training and mentoring banquet staff.
- Support inventory control and proper handling of equipment and supplies.
- Complete post‑event reports and communicate operational feedback to management.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality or related education preferred.
- 2+ years of banquet or restaurant experience required.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food, beverage, and service standards.
- Required alcohol service certification (e.g., BASSET in Illinois).
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong team management skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- High attention to detail and service quality.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to resolve guest issues calmly and effectively.
- Standing and walking for extended period.
- Lifting up to 30–40 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and carrying equipment.
