To maintain strong team cohesion and operational continuity, candidates must be based in the Greater Chicago Area and commit to a hybrid schedule (2 days/week on-site). All applicants must possess unrestricted work authorization in the United States.
Our client, a recognized leader in its field, is seeking an accomplished and driven Senior Dev Ops Engineer to join its critical Dev Ops team. This role is perfect for a professional with a strong foundational background in web development who is ready to leverage that perspective to drive transformative changes in infrastructure reliability, scalability, and delivery efficiency.
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional problem-solving abilities, a strong sense of ownership, and the initiative to anticipate and proactively resolve complex technical challenges. You will be a key player in continuously improving development and deployment pipelines, ensuring high-quality, efficient solutions are delivered across the organization in close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities- Architecting and Implementing scalable, reliable infrastructure solutions across both cloud (AWS, Azure) and on-premises data center environments.
- Owning and Automating the CI/CD lifecycle, specifically designing, implementing, and managing pipelines using tools like Git Hub Actions and Ansible to guarantee efficient and reliable software delivery.
- Driving Operational Excellence by continuously monitoring system performance and expertly troubleshooting issues across development and production, leveraging a suite of tools including AWS Cloud Watch, ELK, Splunk, Loki, and New Relic
. - Enforcing Dev Sec Ops Best Practices and ensuring compliance across the infrastructure landscape.
- Collaborating Strategically with development and operations teams to identify and implement targeted improvements in process and tooling.
- Applying Deep Technical Skills to deploy critical patches and fixes, maintaining system integrity and security.
- Designing and Developing software integrations based on direct team feedback, streamlining workflows.
- Elevating Code Quality by performing in-depth code reviews and communicating detailed, constructive feedback to development teams, accelerating project completion.
- Defining and Executing Robust Testing Frameworks for security, performance, and availability, utilizing key metrics such as DORA metrics to measure success.
- Creating and Maintaining high-quality design and troubleshooting documentation.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in a role such as Dev Ops Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or Cloud Engineer, including significant experience with Linux administration.
- Scripting Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience in scripting languages, particularly Bash or Python
. - Containerization & Orchestration: Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience with container technologies (
Docker
) and orchestration (
Kubernetes, Ansible
). - Configuration Management: Expertise in configuration management tools (e.g.,
Ansible, Puppet, Chef
). - Cloud & CI/CD: Demonstrated experience with major cloud platforms (
AWS, Azure, GCP
) and a solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools (e.g.,
Jenkins, Git Hub Actions
). - Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Knowledge of IaC principles and experience with tools like Terraform or Cloud Formation
. - Networking & Web Services:
Experience with web technologies including Apache, NodeJS, Traefik, Caddy
, and deep knowledge of distributed systems, load balancing, CDN, caching, and firewalls. - Monitoring & Administration: Experience with network, server, and application-status monitoring, and system administration (Bare Metal/Servers).
- Tools: Expert use of Git and Git Hub for version control.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
- Professional Attitude: A strong "Get Stuff Done" (GSD) attitude combined with outstanding problem-solving, communication, and collaboration abilities.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within Dev Ops.
- Experience coming from a developer background in web technologies, particularly with a familiarity with microservices architecture
. - Familiarity with container tools such as Docker Compose, Kompose, and Helm Charts
. - Knowledge of network and security best practices and tools such as Sonar Qube and Snyk
