Visiting Research Data Manager

Job Summary

The Illinois Health Evaluation Collaborative (IHEC) seeks a strategic and detail‑oriented Visiting Research Data Manager to design, govern, and guide internal data operations in the evaluation team’s mission. The role provides oversight of data systems, standards, and workflows, while also engaging directly in data analysis for the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey (ILYTS), IHEC evaluation projects, and scholarly products. The position shapes data management strategy, ensures high quality, compliant and secure use of data, governs processes in alignment with IRB, reporting, and security requirements, and contributes analytically to research questions that inform policy and practice.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight and manage internal data management and storage systems such as REDCap.
  • Design, govern, and maintain secure and compliant data management infrastructure, including databases and secure data storage environments.
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards, including documentation (data dictionaries, codebooks, workflows), data quality controls, access management, and analytic readiness.
  • Lead all data compliance activities, including preparation and coordination of IRB submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, and management of Data Use Agreements (DUAs), Data Management Plans (DMPs), and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).
  • Serve as the primary data governance and compliance resource, maintaining required documentation and monitoring adherence to security protocols.
  • Partner with IHEC leadership to design data collection systems, dashboards and analytic pipelines that support research, evaluation, surveillance, and decision‑making.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, federal, and funder reporting requirements, including disclosure control and cell suppression policies.
  • Provide direct analytical skills for research, evaluation, and surveillance projects, including data cleaning, transformation, analysis, and preparation of analysis‑ready datasets using R, SPSS or similar platforms.
  • Contribute to the interpretation, visualization, and reporting of findings for internal stakeholders, funders, and scholarly dissemination.
  • Train team members, including students, on data management workflows, data entry, analytic processes and tools, and visualization best practices.
  • Develop internal onboarding resources and training materials for data processes, such as SOPs.
  • Offer technical assistance to external partners participating in research, evaluation and surveillance efforts.
  • Maintain internal shared documentation systems (e.g., Box).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public health, data science, statistics, or related field.
  • Experience with REDCap, R, and SPSS.
  • Understanding of IRB processes and compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Memoranda of Understanding, Data Use Agreements, and Data Management Plans.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full‑time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12‑month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The salary range for this position is $58,000–$64,000. Final salary will be determined by a thorough assessment of market data, internal equity, candidate experience, and budget constraints.
