Front End Developer for the Office of the Provost
We are looking for a front‑end developer to manage website development and content for the Office of the Provost, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and a consistent, engaging user experience.
Job SummaryResponsible for creating, managing, enhancing and improving the code and front‑end systems for a number of websites managed by or affiliated with the Office of the Provost.
Duties & Responsibilities- Website Projects
- Manage development, coordination and approvals for regular website projects.
- Consult with stakeholders to maintain awareness of critical and emerging issues.
- Ensure pieces maintain and strengthen Illinois brand standards.
- Manage and track a digital calendar of website projects.
- Audit current website activities and determine what should continue or sunset.
- Represent the Office of the Provost in the Illinois Web Implementation Guidelines Group and the IT Accessibility Liaison Program.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with campus web developer community.
- Assist Director of Communications
- Support the Communications project intake and strategy for website portions.
- Take guidance from the Executive Vice Provost on project planning and priorities.
- Lead strategy and production for Office of the Provost projects.
- Translate UI and UX designs into responsive, accessible solutions.
- Employ best‑practice web standards and conduct user‑testing on all new releases.
- Website Content Edits
- Work closely with stakeholders for any website‑related content changes.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of work experience in IT‑related functions such as programming, network design, IT systems integration, or closely related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in developing websites, themes, templates or solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, web development or a related field.
- Experience creating websites for diverse audiences.
- Broad, general knowledge of higher education and understanding of university academic and administrative structure.
- Experience creating and editing websites using University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign templates and best practices.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent web development skills.
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot HTML and CSS problems.
- Substantial knowledge of browser testing and debugging with excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient in cross‑browser compatibility issues and workarounds.
- Understanding of best practices for accessible and responsive web design.
- Ability to manage website projects.
- Professionalism and ability to interact with senior administrative and academic officials.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, team‑based environment involving diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work under tight deadline pressure.
- Self‑motivated, independent, exercising good judgment and prioritizing tasks.
- Prepared to respond quickly to fast‑breaking developments, possibly working away from the office.
- Exercising excellent judgment and discretion.
This is a 100% full‑time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12‑month basis. Expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is $50,000 - $70,000. This position is not eligible for work‑authorization sponsorship.
