Position Overview:
Oversees the development and implementation of the campus cleaning program. Provides leadership and direction to Building Service Workers to ensure effective custodial services and facility maintenance across assigned University buildings.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates a team of approximately 25–40 Building Service Workers assigned to custodial and maintenance services across University facilities. Manages staffing levels, approves time reports, tracks vacation/sick leave, completes performance evaluations, and ensures all work assignments are up to standard. Monitors operational needs and ensures adequate coverage, including managing overtime as required.
- Inspects assigned facilities to ensure custodial staff are meeting established cleaning standards; provides feedback to staff on performance and implements corrective actions where needed.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with building occupants and other stakeholders through daily personal contact; addresses concerns and service needs to ensure satisfaction.
- Develops, implements, and oversees customized cleaning standards for assigned facilities; ensures all staff are trained and compliant with departmental procedures.
- Oversees custodial equipment, supply, and key inventory, ensuring security and compliance with departmental policies.
- Leads regular custodial team meetings to communicate updates, discuss challenges, and promote a collaborative work environment.
- Maintains accurate records related to staffing, work assignments, and operational performance; generates reports as required.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new initiatives, continuously improving operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assists designated supervisor with administrative duties, including acting on their behalf during absences, representing the department at meetings, and fostering positive relationships with union representatives. Communicates proactively with the supervisor on operational matters.
- Performs related duties consistent with lower custodial classifications and other responsibilities as assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Three (3) years (36 months) of experience in building service operations or related work.
- Two (2) years (24 months) in building custodial supervisory capacity.
Possession of a Driver's License at the time of hire and maintained throughout the duration of employment.
Appointment InformationThe Building Service Supervisor is a 100% full-time Civil Service position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The annual salary range for the Building Service Supervisor is $63,000-$65,000. The unit has four vacancies and the work schedule is for the overnight shift, 11pm-7am.
