Regional Director of Operations – Skilled Nursing Facilities

Location: Illinois | Regional Travel Required
Position Type: Full-Time | Executive Leadership

Position Overview

A growing skilled nursing and post-acute care organization is seeking an accomplished Regional Director of Operations to provide strategic oversight, operational discipline, and inspirational leadership across multiple skilled nursing facilities in Illinois.

This opportunity is ideal for a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with significant multi-facility leadership experience who thrives in complex environments and leads with accountability, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence.

Reporting to senior operations leadership, the Regional Director of Operations will partner closely with facility administrators and regional teams to drive quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, census growth, and financial sustainability while maintaining a strong focus on resident-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for multiple skilled nursing facilities.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

  • Drive performance across clinical, operational, financial, quality, and workforce KPIs.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop Administrators and facility leadership teams to build strong, accountable organizations.

  • Lead operational turnarounds, performance improvement initiatives, and stabilization efforts in underperforming facilities.

  • Collaborate with clinical, finance, human resources, and business development teams to implement best practices and achieve organizational goals.

  • Develop and execute census growth strategies while strengthening hospital, physician, referral, and community relationships.

  • Analyze operational trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement sustainable quality and cost-control initiatives.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Foster trust-based relationships with residents, families, employees, healthcare partners, and other key stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field;
    Master’s degree preferred.

  • Current Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) license required.

  • 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience within skilled nursing, including demonstrated multi-facility oversight.

  • Proven success improving quality outcomes, regulatory performance, financial results, census, and employee engagement.

  • Strong working knowledge of CMS regulations, reimbursement models, PDPM, and skilled nursing operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through operational challenges, turnarounds, and organizational change.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, relationship-building, and analytical skills.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret financial and operational data and translate findings into action.

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Illinois.
