CNC Machinist
Purpose of Position:
Operate computer-controlled machines, equipment, or systems to perform or develop one or more machine functions on metal or plastic work pieces.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Set up and tear down CNC machines.
- Read and interpret CNC codes.
- Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machine malfunction.
- Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
- Lift work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
- Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
- Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
- Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
Associate's degree from college/tech school (2 yr)
Minimum Experience:
Less than 1 year experience

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
