MIG Welder Opportunity in Urbana, Illinois
An Urbana manufacturer is hiring MIG Welders for a consistent second-shift position. You do not need an inflated title or an arbitrary number of years in the trade—but you do need enough genuine MIG welding experience to pass a hands-on weld test.
Job Responsibilities- Perform MIG welding on metal components
- Set up and adjust welding equipment for assigned work
- Fit, align, and position parts before welding
- Follow welding specifications and work instructions
- Produce clean, consistent welds throughout the shift
- Inspect completed welds and identify visible defects
- Complete basic grinding or weld cleanup as required
- Maintain production pace without sacrificing weld quality
- Communicate equipment, material, or quality concerns
- Every candidate must complete and pass a hands-on MIG weld test
- The test will determine whether your current welding ability meets the position's needs
- Resume experience does not replace the weld test
- Candidates must demonstrate that they can operate MIG equipment and produce consistent welds independently
- Previous hands-on MIG welding experience
- Ability to set up and adjust a MIG welder
- Understanding of wire speed, voltage, positioning, and basic weld quality
- Ability to recognize inconsistent beads, porosity, undercut, and other visible defects
- Dependable attendance and consistent availability for second shift
- Ability to follow specifications and repeat quality welds in a production environment
- Willingness to demonstrate skills through a practical welding test
Experience gained through manufacturing, fabrication, structural welding, repair work, vocational training, or other hands-on welding environments may qualify.
Physical and Work Environment- Manufacturing and metalworking environment
- Extended standing, bending, reaching, and positioning
- Regular handling of metal parts, welding tools, and materials
- Exposure to welding heat, sparks, fumes, and production noise
- Required use of appropriate welding and personal protective equipment
- Clear pay progression from $20.75 to approximately $25.00–$26.00 per hour after hire
- Consistent Monday–Friday second-shift schedule
- Opportunity to qualify based on demonstrated welding ability
