MIG Welder Opportunity in Urbana, Illinois

An Urbana manufacturer is hiring MIG Welders for a consistent second-shift position. You do not need an inflated title or an arbitrary number of years in the trade—but you do need enough genuine MIG welding experience to pass a hands-on weld test.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG welding on metal components
  • Set up and adjust welding equipment for assigned work
  • Fit, align, and position parts before welding
  • Follow welding specifications and work instructions
  • Produce clean, consistent welds throughout the shift
  • Inspect completed welds and identify visible defects
  • Complete basic grinding or weld cleanup as required
  • Maintain production pace without sacrificing weld quality
  • Communicate equipment, material, or quality concerns
MIG Weld Test Required
  • Every candidate must complete and pass a hands-on MIG weld test
  • The test will determine whether your current welding ability meets the position's needs
  • Resume experience does not replace the weld test
  • Candidates must demonstrate that they can operate MIG equipment and produce consistent welds independently
Qualifications
  • Previous hands-on MIG welding experience
  • Ability to set up and adjust a MIG welder
  • Understanding of wire speed, voltage, positioning, and basic weld quality
  • Ability to recognize inconsistent beads, porosity, undercut, and other visible defects
  • Dependable attendance and consistent availability for second shift
  • Ability to follow specifications and repeat quality welds in a production environment
  • Willingness to demonstrate skills through a practical welding test

Experience gained through manufacturing, fabrication, structural welding, repair work, vocational training, or other hands-on welding environments may qualify.

Physical and Work Environment
  • Manufacturing and metalworking environment
  • Extended standing, bending, reaching, and positioning
  • Regular handling of metal parts, welding tools, and materials
  • Exposure to welding heat, sparks, fumes, and production noise
  • Required use of appropriate welding and personal protective equipment
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Clear pay progression from $20.75 to approximately $25.00–$26.00 per hour after hire
  • Consistent Monday–Friday second-shift schedule
  • Opportunity to qualify based on demonstrated welding ability
  • Full-time hours and long-term employment potential
  • Opportunity to transition directly onto the company's team after a successful introductory period
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Weekly pay
  • Referral bonus
