Job Description for Pastor of Cornerstone Community Protestant Church
Position OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Pastor for an independent, non-denominational church committed to biblical faith, relational discipleship, and community outreach. The Pastor will lead spiritual direction, preaching, pastoral care, leadership development, and day-to-day ministry operations, partnering with lay leaders and volunteers to grow the congregation and serve the local community.
Key Responsibilities- Preaching and Teaching
- Prepare and deliver biblically grounded, engaging weekly sermons and occasional series for all ages.
- Lead Bible studies, discipleship classes, and theological teaching for small groups and ministry teams.
- Spiritual Leadership and Vision
- Articulate, model, and help implement the church’s vision, mission, and core values.
- Discern spiritual direction through prayer, Scripture, and collaborative input from leadership.
- Pastoral Care and Counseling
- Provide pastoral care including visitation, counseling, crisis support, and sacramental ministry (as appropriate).
- Equip and mobilize a pastoral care team of volunteers.
- Leadership Development and Staff Oversight
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteer leaders; foster a healthy team culture.
- Attendandparticipatein regular staff and leadership meetings; develop ministry goals and annual plans.
- Worship and Program Oversight

Required Qualifications
- Personal and Spiritual Character
- Christianmaturitywith a strong personal devotional life and evidence of a pastoral calling.
- Demonstrates integrity, humility, compassion, and a servant‑leader posture.
- Education and Experience
- Minimum:
Bible/theology coursework or equivalent ministry training. - Preferred:
Degree in theology, ministry, divinity, or related field and 3+ years of pastoral or ministry leadership experience, though emerging pastors with strongdemonstratedgifting will be considered. - Careful study of biblical text andstrong communication skills for preaching and teaching.
- Experience in pastoral care, leadership development, and volunteer mobilization.
- Basic administrative competency and ability to work with boards/committees.
- Leadership and Vision Casting: ability to inspire, cast direction, and shepherd congregational life.
- Relational Ministry: strong interpersonal skills across ages and life stages.
- Team Building and Delegation: develop leaders, delegate effectively, and cultivate healthy staff dynamics.
- Cultural Relevance: communicate the gospel clearly to people outside the church whileremainingfaithful to Scripture.
- Conflict Resolution: navigate congregational conflict constructively and biblically.
Our pastor recently resigned after sustaining major injuries in a fall. We are a large church with a small congregation. This is an excellent opportunity for a pastor looking to be involved in a great rural community.
