Job ResponsibilitiesThe staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the nursing process, technology, and the resources of the institution. The RN provides direct patient care during endoscopy procedures including prep, intra-procedure, and recovery phases for routine GI procedures of colonoscopy and upper endoscopy.
The RN will also deliver moderate sedation under direction of a physician, works collaboratively with unit staff, and delegates to unlicensed personnel as appropriate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform duties required by the unit within scope of service
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care
- Complete initial patient assessment and develop an appropriate plan of care
- Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures
- Modify plan of care based on ongoing evaluation
- Ensure safety of patients and staff, reporting hazards and incidents
- Communicate with team members to resolve issues
- Provide feedback for professional development and collaborate with colleagues
- Identify learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions
- Fulfill departmental competencies
- Prepare patients for procedures, perform health history reviews, start IVs, and provide patient education
- Monitor and sedate patients during procedures; care for patients in Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery
- Assist the CRNA during cases requiring anesthesia involvement
- Support the Digestive Health team and coordinate with related departments
