Overview
Carle Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our growing Critical Care team at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. The Critical Care APP works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing care in critical care settings including trauma, neuro, med/surg, and cardiovascular ICUs. The APP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, and timely, compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.

- Collaboration with dedicated Critical Care physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Clinical Pharmacists, and resident physicians
- Critical Care Service covers 48 ICU beds including cardiac, trauma, medical, surgical, and neuro
- Assist with hospital codes alongside Critical Care physicians and the code team
- Opportunity to obtain independent credentialing in ICU procedures such as PICC placement, arterial line, and central lines as well as opportunities for intubation, paracentesis, and chest‑tube placement
- State‑of‑the‑art ICU in Carle’s 390,000‑square‑foot patient tower
- Mix of weekday/night/evening and weekend shifts and holiday rotation
- Collaboration with Critical Care physicians in the management of complex critically ill patients with multi‑organ dysfunction/failure, poly‑trauma, TBI, complex stroke, and SAH
- Assist with management of patients receiving CRRT/CVVH and targeted temperature management
- Participation in monthly CCT M&M, CVICU, and CCU RN education/training
- Master’s degree with Acute Care specialty preferred; FNP considered with prior ICU provider experience
- Physician Assistant with prior ICU experience
- 1–2 years of APP experience preferred
- Consideration for nursing ICU/ED experience
- Growing organizational research opportunities
- Quality and Practice Committee membership within Critical Care Service and organizationally
- Access to state‑of‑the‑art sim‑lab for procedural training
- Current Illinois registered nurse license and advanced practice nurse licensure or physician assistant licensure
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Must satisfactorily complete all continuing education, including NIH Stroke Scale certification and stroke education required for providers at Comprehensive Stroke Center
The compensation range for this position is $60.72–$78.94/hour. This represents a good‑faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
