LPN - Cardio-Pulmonary; Inpatient

Overview

When the unit is full, an LPN will work with RNs who have the highest acuity or will be paired with an RN who has a heavy patient load. When the UNL has patients, the LPN will be paired with the UNL to assist with the UNL patient load. LPN tasks may include oral medications, IV piggyback medications, tracheostomy care, dressing changes, and documentation of assessments and care plans after the RN has completed the initial assessment and initiated the care plan.

Certifications:

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR);
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA).

Education:

College Diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing (required).

Work experience:

• Passes all medications, hangs IV piggybacks and fluids, excluding IV push medications.
• Charts assessments on assigned patients after the RN has charted the initial assessment.
• Charts and opens care plans as needed, coordinating with the RN.
• Communicates with physicians/advanced practice providers to receive orders and coordinate patient care.
• Completes dressing changes as required.
• Provides tracheostomy care as needed.
• Inserts and cares for NG tubes and administers feedings through NG tubes.
• Provides ostomy care and changes as necessary.
• Reinforces education and discharge instructions with patients.

The compensation range for this position is $25.73 per hour – $41.87 per hour. This represents a good‑faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
