Role Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports patient care by working alongside RNs, assisting with high-acuity or heavy patient loads, and managing patient tasks such as medication administration, IV piggyback infusions, trach care, dressing changes, and NG tube care. When patients are present, the LPN collaborates with the UNL to handle patient load and documentation, including assessments and care plans initiated by RNs.

When patients are present, the LPN collaborates with the UNL to handle patient load and documentation, including assessments and care plans initiated by RNs.

Responsibilities
  • Passes medications, manages IV piggybacks and fluids (excluding IV push meds).
  • Charts assessments and documents care plans following initial RN assessments.
  • Communicates with physicians and advanced practice providers to coordinate care and receive orders.
  • Performs dressing changes, trach care, NG tube insertions, and ostomy care.
  • Reinforces patient education and discharge instructions.
Qualifications & Skills

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, with a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Requires a college diploma in Practical Nursing.

This role demands strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams to provide quality patient care.
