Job Summary

Responsible for the efficient operation and continued development ofthe Sanger services inthe DNA Sequencing Facility.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for understanding existing research protocols in sample preparation and Sanger DNA sequencing techniques to meet the ongoing needs of the facility.
  • Responsible for proper setup and processing of research samples requiring DNA fragment analysis.
  • Assist with customer inquiries and applicable sample troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for performing DNA sequencing reactions, cleanup, and quality assurance of research samples.
  • Maintain laboratory general use supplies, including unpacking and stocking inventory, continuous evaluation of supply and inventory levels, and timely notification of any lab inventory needs.
  • Apply molecular biology methodologies to Sanger DNA sequencing, including agarose gel quantification, spatial and spectral calibrations, and various Sanger recipes.
  • Adapt to upgrades and new instrumentation by timely study and understanding of new protocols and systems as they emerge.
  • Operate Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), entering complete data in a timely manner into high throughput LIMS, Core LIMS, and other laboratory organizational folders.
  • Perform quality control of samples with Qubit, Nanodrop, and Fragment Analyzer.
  • Carry out routine maintenance of laboratory equipment following training and, where applicable, instrument maintenance manuals, and document said maintenance.
  • Responsible for compliance with safety regulations, maintaining records, and following protocols according to DRS regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related field.
  • Experience in molecular biology protocol.
  • Demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively in a team-based laboratory or research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related field.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of wet laboratory techniques and protocols.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Molecular Biology.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and accurately through appropriate communication methods.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in laboratory procedures, documentation, and data entry.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and laboratory procedures in a fast-paced environment.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $58,000 to $62,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
