Juvenile Detention Center Security Officer

Monitors and controls the internal and external security systems of the Juvenile Detention Center; assists full time officers in monitoring and supervising detainees; transports detainees to and from various appointments. Provides supervision, programming, and educational support for detainees at the Juvenile Detention Center. Conducts room searches and room checks as required by law. Monitors and controls both internal and external security of the Juvenile Detention Center.

Deals with the public, social service agencies, and other law enforcement agencies in person and by telephone. Drives detainees to and from various appointments and ensures information from the appointments is conveyed to full time officers. Performs other duties as requested by a supervisor.

This job does not exercise supervisory responsibilities.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data, to extract information, to understand technical procedures or governmental regulations.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from court personnel, social service and/or law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization doesn't always exist.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Physical demands include standing, walking, talking, hearing, sitting occasionally, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and/or moving more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Work environment includes potential problems with non-compliant detainees, multitasking, occasional stressful situations, exposure to outside weather, and moderate noise level.
