Building Maintenance & Grounds

  • Installing glass, window film, mirrors, storefront systems, curtain walls, windows, doors, and specialty glazing materials.
  • Installation of metal, aluminum, vinyl, and wood glazing systems.
  • Perform work including measuring, cutting, handling, moving, and staging glass and glazing materials.
  • Removal, repair, and replacement of damaged or broken glass.
  • Drive and operate service vehicles used for painter / glazier maintenance, installations, or repairs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support operations.
Job Summary

Performs journey level glaziers work with the install, repair, maintenance, and replacement of commercial glass and glazing systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installation of metal, aluminum, vinyl, and wood glazing systems.
  • Perform work including measuring, cutting, handling, moving, and staging glass and glazing materials.
  • Removal, repair, and replacement of damaged or broken glass.
  • Drive and operate service vehicles used for painter / glazier maintenance, installations, or repairs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support operations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Receives work assignments from Painter Foreperson/Sub-foreperson, or Director of Building Maintenance & Grounds, or Superintendents. Work is inspected by the Building Maintenance Painter Foreperson, Sub
- Foreperson. Is expected to support the Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and management operational directions and philosophies of Facilities and Services.

  • May work from roof, ladder, scaffold or stage.
  • May work while wearing a respirator.
  • May work when exposed traffic.
  • May work at heights, depths, confined spaces, noisy areas and in inclement weather.
  • May work at heights on platforms or hung above tall ceilings.
  • May work amid hazards of work sites such as dust, noise, and in areas such as coal fired power plants, animal rooms, and laboratories.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a certified Glazier apprenticeship program or equivalent experience installing commercial glass and related commercial glazing systems, including storefront systems, curtain walls, windows, doors, and specialty glazing materials.
  • Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program or four (4) years (48 months) of full-time journey-level painter experience.
  • Possession of a valid State of Illinois driver’s license at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of construction site safety practices and hazard awareness.
  • Understanding of the general principles of glass handling, glazing systems, and building components (to be developed through apprenticeship training).
  • Awareness of OSHA regulations and safe work practices applicable to the glazing trade.
  • Familiarity with basic math concepts such as measurement, fractions, and calculations used in layout and material preparation.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools common to the glazing trade.
  • Skill in measuring, handling, and positioning glass and glazing materials under supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively when working with supervisors, journeyperson painters & glaziers, and other trades.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Organizational skills to maintain tools, materials, and a clean work area.
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills and techniques through on the job training and classroom instruction.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute positively to a union work environment.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance in accordance with job requirements.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3027 - Painter position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 10/6/2026. Salary is $40.96/hour. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
