Position Summary
A Relief Driver- CDL (B) is responsible for safely operating a collection truck and providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers. The driver ensures vehicle compliance with company safety standards, adheres to all regulations, and completes vehicle condition reports daily.
Responsibilities- Perform complete pre‑ and post‑operation inspection of the vehicle, ensuring tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order.
- Safely operate the heavy truck along the designated route and disposal site, following route sheets and dispatcher instructions.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate the compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
- Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers and others to ensure all customer routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them according to department procedures.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
- Clean area around accidental waste spills, maintaining all applicable safety standards.
- Monitor vehicle condition to ensure operational readiness, minimising downtime; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body as appropriate.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs and other reports.
- Maintain adherence to productivity standards so all customers are serviced efficiently.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Excellent customer service skills, professional and courteous toward customers and co‑workers.
- Strong time‑management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Reliable follow‑through; adheres to work schedule and addresses challenges as they arise.
- Adherence to company policies and promotion of safety standards; avoids imprudent risks.
- Maintains pride in work and strives to achieve goals.
- Two years of prior experience driving commercial trucks (preferred).
- Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement.
$27.25/hr
