Job Description
This role focuses on providing emergency machining support and performing regularly scheduled repair work in a dynamic job shop environment. You will operate a wide range of manual and CNC equipment, frequently work without detailed prints, and use your judgment to make precise fit and finish decisions to keep critical production equipment running.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency machining support to minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform regularly scheduled repair work on parts and components used in production equipment.
- Set up and operate a variety of machines, including manual and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, welders, and other shop equipment.
- Operate CNC machines and at least two or more of the following: mills, lathes, plasma equipment, wire EDM machines, and grinders.
- Program CNC machines using CAD/CAM software, including creating and modifying toolpaths and G-code as needed.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues to ensure parts meet specifications and function correctly.
- Machine parts accurately while working with very tight tolerances and verify quality using micrometers and other precision measuring tools.
- Work from limited or incomplete documentation, often without blueprints, and make independent fit and finish decisions based on experience and part function.
- Determine appropriate materials for each part based on application requirements and available information.
- Read and interpret blueprints when available to ensure parts meet design intent.
- Collaborate with other machinists and shop personnel to prioritize urgent jobs and coordinate workload during plant emergencies.
- Work efficiently under pressure in a non-production, job-shop environment where work types and priorities change frequently.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area to ensure safe operation of machinery and tools.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with CNC lathes and CNC mills.
- Proficiency in using micrometers and other precision measuring instruments to verify part accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints when provided.
- Strong machining skills in either manual or CNC
- Capability to make accurate fit and finish decisions without complete prints or dimensions.
- Comfort working under pressure in a fast-paced job shop setting with changing priorities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Urbana, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $42.00/hr.
