About the Role
We are looking for an Energy Engineer‑in‑Training to assist in the design and preparation of construction drawings for various utility projects, including natural gas, power, transmission, distribution, substation, clean generation, and energy storage.
Duties, Responsibilities & Other- Assist in design and preparation of construction drawings for a variety of projects across civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, petroleum, chemical, and utility disciplines.
- Perform engineering calculations, interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Work with multiple engineering disciplines and perform drafting/CADD work using tools such as Micro Station, AutoCAD, GIS, and other specialty software.
- Conduct site visits to gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs.
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for review and approval.
- Review and approve shop drawings to ensure project requirements are met.
- Read and interpret technical documents necessary for job performance.
- Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub‑consultants to ensure project success.
- Attend frequent project team meetings to discuss progress and tasks.
- Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance and operate within specified budget parameters.
- Complete all tasks on time, within budget, and fully meeting project scope.
- Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization targets.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Complete other duties as required or assigned.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical engineering principles, including circuits, power systems, and basic electronics.
- Basic knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, including renewable and clean energy technologies.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations under supervision of a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Knowledge of field conditions and their translation into engineering design requirements.
- Exposure to analytical or modeling tools such as MATLAB or similar engineering software.
- Willingness to learn utility‑specific engineering software (e.g., ETAP, Easy Power, PLS‑CADD, Micro Station).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting/CADD tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for technical documentation and data analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and coordination.
- Willingness to learn from senior engineers and apply technical guidance and feedback.
- Progress toward or interest in obtaining Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and coordination.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to think critically.
- Interest in power delivery, grid infrastructure, and emerging clean energy technologies.
- Progress toward or interest in obtaining Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
- 0–2 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑Accredited Program.
- General knowledge of Micro Station, AutoCAD, or Revit.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good communication and technical writing skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to think critically.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to maintain required certifications.
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification (preferred).
