Position Title: Financial Analyst I - Accounting & Finance
Location: Des Moines, IA, United States
DescriptionThe financial analyst provides support to the accounting and finance area, conducting research and supporting renewable projects or other projects as needed.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and maintain analysis and reports related to tax information needed for renewable projects or other projects as they arise.
- Stay apprised of regulations and rules related to prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements.
- Work with contractors and internal personnel to obtain needed information and documentation on employees’ wages, hours, and any other information required to fulfill prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements.
- Assist with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits as related to analysis performed.
- Perform financial analysis on various projects as requested.
- Ensure data integrity, participate in data quality control and validation.
- Assist Mid American Energy Company Accounting and Finance department with special projects, including research, gathering and validating data, modeling, economics analysis, and summarizing results for management.
- Develop metrics and reporting, prepare and present data, gather and maintain project information for multiple projects.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, or finance or equivalent work experience. Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience are needed for candidates without a bachelor’s degree.
Two years of related experience.
Effective analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills to interpret economic, financial, accounting, and statistical data, and make recommendations. Knowledge of IT terms, equipment, systems, functions, and major vendors. Strong research, analytical, and attention‑to‑detail skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills; experience with PowerPoint, e‑mail, Oracle Financials, and other software applications. Advanced spreadsheet and report design skills. Database management and query skills using Access, Discoverer Plus, or other querying tools.
Leadership skills to provide guidance and instruction. Project management skills to coordinate and lead projects with little direction. Ability to meet strict deadlines, handle multiple projects, and maintain high accuracy. Ability to collaborate with all organizational levels and work as a team member. Ability to establish and monitor adherence to standards. Effective oral and written communication skills.
