Field/Service Technician, Installation Technician
Job Summary
The Field Engineer I - Data Center Services will be able to install and operate most types of low‑voltage/structured cabling systems and equipment, and troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems in a senior service support role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Test and troubleshoot system components, verify field connections, labels, installation, and work quality.
- Understand advanced system drawings, specifications, and technical manuals; create shop drawings and submittals for new projects.
- Manage technical work in the field with little supervision, working both in‑house and onsite as required.
- Take ownership of project installation, support field staff and the project manager, and provide advanced support for installation staff.
- Maintain and complete project punch‑lists for closeouts and oversee technical aspects, quality‑check projects, test all equipment and functionality, and create punch lists.
- Assist sales staff with product and system demonstrations.
- Conduct detailed field walks for prospective or change‑order opportunities, providing comprehensive written scope narratives, system outlines, and constructability notes to assist estimating.
- Identify and document existing conditions, infrastructure constraints, and access limitations during site assessments to inform bid strategies and value‑engineering options.
- Interface with subcontractors during pre‑construction activities; coordinate site walks, review scope alignment, and obtain written proposals or bids as required.
- Serve as a technical liaison between the field and pre‑construction/estimating, bridging gaps in design intent, sequence of operations, and field feasibility.
- When workload allows, assist the quality and training department by developing or delivering structured guidance for leads and superintendents on project setup, documentation organization, and workflow planning.
- Support the development of best practices and job readiness materials to help new leaders understand expectations around job closeout, documentation control, and startup execution.
Must be self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to lead others. Demonstrate problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, read, write, and give oral presentations, diagnose and fix problems with existing equipment and new installs, communicate effectively with customers, and provide excellent customer service. Must be able to travel within branch or regional territory as needed. Minimum pay range: $35.00–$50.00 per year.
Qualifications- High School diploma or GED equivalency (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- At least 3–4 years of commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and define a project scope, develop detailed tasks, and manage to completion and customer turnover.
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience; no license required; must meet company driving standards.
