Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Senior Construction Accountant – Job Cost & Billing
Location: North Salt Lake

SCS Multifamily is a rapidly growing national subcontractor and supplier serving large multifamily and hospitality projects across the U.S. Our work includes cabinets, quartz countertops, flooring, procurement, logistics, delivery, installation, billing, and project coordination across high-volume construction projects.

We are seeking a Senior Construction Accounting Manager with strong experience in Sage, CMiC, or another true construction accounting/ERP platform
. This person must understand construction accounting at a deeper level than basic bookkeeping or Quick Books-based accounting.

This is not a traditional back-office accounting role. It is also not a pure controller role where the person only reviews, manages, or delegates. We are looking for a hands‑on, experienced accounting professional who can get into the details, clean up processes, improve reporting, support ownership, and help build the accounting discipline needed for SCS’s next stage of growth.

This role sits at the intersection of accounting, construction operations, project profitability, cash flow, and business strategy
. The right person will help leadership understand where projects stand financially, where margin is being lost, where billing or collections are delayed, and where better systems and controls are needed.

We are specifically looking for someone with experience in Sage or CMiC
. Quick Books-only experience is not enough for this position.

Responsibilities

The Senior Construction Accounting Manager will be responsible for helping lead and improve the company’s construction accounting function, with a strong focus on job costing, billing accuracy, project financial reporting, and system improvement.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Own and manage construction accounting processes across active projects.
  • Maintain accurate job-cost records by project, cost code, phase, vendor, and scope of work.
  • Track project budgets, committed costs, actual costs, billed amounts, retainage, change orders, and projected margins.
  • Manage or support progress billing, schedule of values, stored materials billing, retainage, and project-based invoicing.
  • Prepare, maintain, and improve WIP reporting and project profitability reporting.
  • Review vendor bills, purchase orders, subcontractor costs, material costs, and project-related expenses for proper coding.
  • Identify cost overruns, miscoded expenses, missing costs, under billing, overbilling, margin risk, and cash-flow issues.
  • Build and manage cash-flow forecasting tied to real project timelines, including procurement, factory production, shipping, delivery, installation, billing, and collections.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning for projects, vendors, materials, and overall business performance.
  • Translate accounting data into clear, useful recommendations for ownership and operations.
  • Work directly with project managers, operations, vendors, and leadership to improve financial visibility.
  • Improve accounting workflows, approval processes, cost coding, billing cadence, reporting schedules, and financial controls.
  • Support month-end close, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and management reporting.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, AR, AP, retainage, job-cost reports, and other key accounts.
  • Help evaluate, implement, or improve construction accounting software and ERP systems as SCS continues to move beyond Quick Books-level processes.
  • Work with outside CPA, tax advisors, or other financial partners as needed.
  • Help create scalable accounting systems and reporting tools for a growing national construction-related business.

This is a hands‑on role. The right person must be willing to work directly inside the accounting system, review details, solve problems, clean up data, reconcile accounts, and improve the process while also thinking strategically.
