Job Summary
Sky View Excavation & Grading is seeking an Excavation Project Engineer to support field operations on heavy civil and sitework projects. This role works closely with superintendents, field crews, and project management to ensure projects are built safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications. This position is ideal for someone who understands how work actually gets built in the field and can bridge the gap between plans, schedules, and production.
Key Responsibilities- Support superintendents and field crews during daily construction activities
- Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and schedules
- Assist with project planning, sequencing, and work plans
- Track quantities, production, and costs throughout the project
- Verify grading, trenching, utilities, and compaction activities
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, redlines, and as‑built documentation
- Coordinate with subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors
- Support quality control and safety compliance (OSHA, trench safety, SWPPP)
- Participate in site walks, inspections, and coordination meetings
- Assist with change order documentation and quantity tracking
- 2–5+ years of experience in heavy civil, excavation, or sitework construction
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, grading plans, and specifications
- Strong understanding of earthwork, utilities, and construction sequencing
- Comfortable working in active construction environments
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic construction documentation
- Field experience as a laborer, operator, or foreman
- Experience with DOT, municipal, or utility projects
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, scheduling tools, or construction management software
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Primarily field-based with some office coordination
- Active construction sites with varying terrain and weather conditions
- Collaboration with estimating, operations, and management teams
