Substitute High School Teacher

Alpine Academy is a therapeutic boarding school, and college preparatory school accredited by Advanc

ED. The students live on campus in a unique residential environment where we provide a family-like setting for behavioral treatment, they receive clinical therapy, and attend school. A typical length of stay is about 1 year and the youth have various diagnoses including ODD, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, ASD, etc. They have come to us from several school districts around the nation or are primarily referred by their parents.

Class sizes at Alpine Academy are no more than 12 students, which facilitates a nurturing and collaborative learning environment. Located just 30 minutes west of Salt Lake City, the campus is set on a beautiful ranch in a rural community, has cutting edge technology, and staff who are committed to our youth. We are looking for mission-driven teachers who want to make a difference in young peoples' lives!

Duties:

• Follow lesson plans
• Teach 7th-12th Grade
• Report on student progress
• Manage the classroom

Schedule:

• As needed
• School hours: 8:00 AM - 2:40 PM
• Four 70-minute classes and a 70-minutepreparation period each day

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree Preferred
• Ability to pass a background check
• Up-to-date TB Screening
• Willingness and desire to work with youth in treatment
• Ability and desire to build rapport and with youth
• Willingness to learn and use components of our treatment model, Teaching-Family Model
• Engaging and dynamic

The role of a substitute teacher is to maintain classroom discipline and to carry on the classroom procedures as if he/she were the regular teacher. A substitute teacher has the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher. Substitute teachers should, as far as possible, follow any lesson plans and instructions left by the classroom teacher. Substitutes do not have the authority to make changes in daily curriculum except in emergency situations.

Discipline should be maintained and students are to be held accountable for their work, for classroom behavior, attendance, etc. The Alpine Academy Behavior Management System helps the substitute with consistency as well as helping the students be set up for success. School starts at 8:00 and ends at 2:40.
