Job Summary:
The School City of Hammond is seeking reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic Substitute Teachers to support student learning across all grade levels (K-12) during teacher absences. Substitute Teachers play a key role in maintaining classroom instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring continuity in students' education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver instructional plans left by the regular teacher or implement prepared curriculum activities
- Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and other assigned locations
- Follow school policies, routines, and procedures
- Provide written feedback or documentation to the regular teacher on student progress and any noteworthy incidents
- Adapt teaching methods to meet student needs and grade-level expectations when necessary
- Uphold the educational standards and goals of the school or district
Required:
- Indiana Substitute Permit (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
- Ability to pass background checks as required by the school/district
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Flexibility to work across a range of grade levels and subjects
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Valid teaching credential or
- Prior teaching or classroom experience
- Familiarity with virtual or hybrid learning tools
