Job Overview

Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students. The teacher will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth, establish rapport with students, motivate pupils to develop skills and knowledge, and maintain professional relations with staff and parents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach subject matter using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlating with other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, employing effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive learning experiences.
  • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in instruction.
  • Control the storage and use of district-owned property, making minor adjustments and requesting repairs as required.
  • Maintain classroom organization and discipline.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on school grounds.
  • Devise and utilize techniques that accurately measure students' progress.
  • Evaluate students' academic and personal growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress, interpreting school programs.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Conform to district policies, including attendance, absences, and evaluations.
  • Attend and participate in faculty/department meetings, PLCs, committees, student activities, and professional development at the school and/or district level as required.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the principal/administrator.
  • Support school and district initiatives.
  • Maintain records and required information in a secure location.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information, including appropriate use of social media and online sources as outlined in FERPA and district policy.
  • Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position: Physical presence at the worksite is essential. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist other personnel as required to support the completion of their work activities.
Physical Requirements
  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Move about inside and outside the school to access files, students, and machinery.
  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery on a continuous basis.
  • Occasionally ascend or descend a ladder or stairs to access high objects or different building levels.
  • Position self continuously to maintain files, students, or objects.
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly, exchanging accurate information in various situations.
  • Observe details at close and far range.
  • Frequently move items weighing up to 20 pounds across the classroom for various needs.
  • Work consistently in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Teachers in SpEd, P.E., CTE, Theatre, or Art may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the State Core Curriculum and Board of Education–adopted guides.
  • Valid Utah Teaching/Educator License and relevant endorsement(s).
  • Completed Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
