Position: Ephraim/Manti Elementary  School Counselor Part-time (20 hrs a week 10 hrs each school)
Location: Manti

School Counselor

The School Counselor shall promote and enhance the learning process by continuously assessing student needs, identifying situations that may hinder student success, and advocating for support and assistance to address those situations effectively. The counselor, through a comprehensive school counseling program, shall provide support for students in making successful transitions, acquiring attitudes, developing skills, and obtaining the knowledge necessary to be productive citizens.

He/she shall provide a proactive program that engages students and includes leadership, advocacy, and collaboration with school staff, administration, and community/family members in the delivery of programs and activities to help students achieve success.

The School Counselor shall:

  • Abide by the USCA Ethical Standards.
  • Serve as a leader, advocate, and systems change agent with a focus on respect for diversity, equity, and student advocacy.
  • Provide short-term counseling, which is non-therapeutic, solution-focused, and problem-solving in nature, to a student or a small group of students, during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations impeding student success.
  • Complete referrals for students and families to school or community resources for additional assistance and information.
  • Attend relevant intervention meetings as needed (individual education plan meetings and 504 meetings).
  • Teach the school counseling curriculum to students in grades K-5
  • Provide information/education to parents/guardians about topics related to child development and school performance, and available services through the counseling department.
  • Keep relevant staff members informed of student concerns and progress while protecting student confidentiality.
  • Consult with the school principal to identify and resolve student issues, needs, and problems.
  • Work closely with the school mental health specialist, school nurse, social workers, mental health clinics, and any other special personnel working with students.
  • Serve as a liaison for school, home, and community.
  • Provide mental health and social-emotional learning related in-service to staff.
  • Pursue professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the elementary school principal and/or director of student services.

  • Requires a cleared criminal background check.

Minimum

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelors Degree in related field
  • Must possess a demonstrated interest in elementary school-aged children and previous experience working with students at this age level.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to work with people.
  • Must have some experience in organizing and implementing a elementary school counseling program.
  • Must meet any additional qualifications set by the district.

Machines. Tools & Equipment Used:

  • Standard office equipment, educational technology, computers, and standard machines used in the teacher work room.

Physical Requirements - Not limited to the following:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The employee may need to frequently stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The teacher is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and may be required to climb or balance.
  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Physical ability to perform the essential functions listed above with or without reasonable accommodation. Possess the physical, mental, and emotional stability to work under stressful conditions, including but not limited to deadlines, contract requirements, inspection requirements, and interaction with critical personnel.
