Salary: $29 per hour

General Function

The School Counselor shall promote and enhance the learning process by continuously assessing student needs, identifying situations that may hinder student success, and advocating for support and assistance. Through a comprehensive counseling program, the counselor will support students in transitioning, developing attitudes and skills, and learning essential knowledge to become productive citizens. The role includes proactive programs that engage students and collaboration with staff, administration, and the community.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Abide by the USCA Ethical Standards.
  • Serve as leader, advocate, and systems change agent with a focus on diversity, equity, and student advocacy.
  • Provide short‑term, non‑therapeutic, solution‑focused counseling to students individually or in small groups.
  • Complete referrals to school or community resources.
  • Attend individual education plan and 504 meetings as needed.
  • Teach the school counseling curriculum to students K‑5.
  • Provide information and education to parents/guardians on child development and school performance topics and available services.
  • Keep relevant staff informed of student concerns and progress while protecting confidentiality.
  • Consult with the principal to identify and resolve student issues.
  • Collaborate with the school mental health specialist, nurse, social workers, and other personnel.
  • Serve as liaison among school, home, and community.
  • Provide mental‑health and social‑emotional learning in‑service for staff.
  • Pursue professional growth.
  • Perform duties assigned by the principal or director of student services.
Non‑essential Functions
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
Qualification Requirements
  • Cleared criminal background check.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in elementary school‑aged children and prior experience working with students at that level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people.
  • Experience organizing and implementing an elementary school counseling program.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular speech and hearing; standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception.
