Hourly Range: $15-18 per hour, 1:30-6:00, Monday - Thursday (Hours and days of the week may vary by site)

Reports to:
Site Director or Site Coordinator (as assigned)

Position Summary

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for fostering positive relationships with children, parents, school faculty, and co-workers while creating a physically and emotionally safe environment for all youth participants. YDPs support the social, emotional, and developmental growth of children through engaging activities, mentorship, and positive interactions that promote a welcoming and inclusive program culture.

The YDP plays a vital role in delivering high-quality youth development programming and ensuring that all members have a safe, positive, and enriching experience.

Site Assignment

YDPs are assigned to a designated school site based on program needs. Site assignments are not permanent and may be adjusted to support organizational priorities and program operations.

Schedule & Hours Expectations

Work schedules vary depending on site location and program needs.

Typical Program Hours

Monday – Thursday

  • Earliest start time: 2:00 PM
  • Latest end time: 6:00 PM

Estimated weekly hours range from 15–22 hours depending on site assignment.

Employees are expected to remain actively engaged with youth from school dismissal until program closure, typically 5:30 PM, with some sites operating until 6:00 PM.

Training Requirements

In addition to regularly scheduled program hours, YDPs are required to participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Program Start Training

Training dates and schedules will be determined by the Site Director/Coordinator.

Weekly Training
  • Attend weekly site staff meetings.
  • Meetings are scheduled immediately following program hours.
  • Meetings may last 30–60 minutes.
Monthly Training
  • Participate in monthly professional development trainings.
  • Attend required Saturday conferences and training events as scheduled. (2 per year)
Quarterly Training
  • Participate in additional quarterly training opportunities as assigned.
Attendance & Availability Expectations

YDPs Are Expected To:

  • Arrive on time and work all scheduled shifts.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.
  • Communicate scheduling conflicts promptly.
  • Demonstrate flexibility for special events and program needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Youth Engagement & Supervision
  • Build positive relationships with youth through active engagement and mentorship.
  • Provide active supervision and maintain a safe environment.
  • Participate in games, recreation, and enrichment activities.
  • Lead and support physical activities, including sports and playground games.
  • Supervise outdoor activities and recess in varying weather conditions.
Social & Emotional Development
  • Support youth emotional well-being and personal growth.
  • Model positive communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promote inclusion, empathy, and respect among participants.
  • Assist youth in developing social and emotional intelligence.
Program Support & Leadership
  • Teach and facilitate engaging lessons and activities.
  • Follow lesson plans and activity schedules.
  • Assist with attendance tracking, surveys, and program documentation.
  • Maintain organized program spaces and materials.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
Professional Development
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities.
  • Implement feedback and coaching.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a growth mindset.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to actively supervise youth indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and participate in recreational activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry program materials as needed.
