Job Description & How to Apply Below
Science Educator
We're looking for an enthusiastic science educator who loves helping young people understand how the world works. This is a unique opportunity to work one-on-one with students ages 10–16 in a homeschooling environment where you won't be handed a textbook and told to follow a script; you'll have the chance to build lessons, explore ideas, and bring science to life.
If you're the kind of person who gets excited explaining why something happens, enjoys asking questions, and can turn a difficult concept into an "aha!" moment, you may be a great fit for this role.
What You'll Do- Build a custom science curriculum from the ground up based on each student's knowledge, interests, learning style, and goals.
- Make science engaging and practical by connecting concepts to real-world examples, experiments, observation, and everyday life.
- Teach students to think, not just memorize by encouraging questions, critical thinking, problem-solving, and understanding the "why."
- Recognize when a student isn't truly understanding and adapt your teaching approach to meet them where they are.
- Create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence.
- Take ownership of the student's growth by preparing meaningful lessons, tracking progress, developing strong study habits, and communicating with parents.
- Strong proficiency in sciences (biology/natural sciences).
- A degree in education or a related field is highly preferred.
- Previous experience in tutoring, classroom teaching, or academic mentoring, specifically with the 10–16 age demographic.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex historical or scientific concepts in an accessible way.
- Must be dependable, patient, highly organized, and able to work independently.
- Schedule:
Approximately 8–10 hours per week (schedule may be flexible). - Location:
In-person at the student's home in Leeds, Utah - Pay: $35–$50 an hour.
