Utah State University Outdoor Programs Trainer
Utah State University Outdoor Programs (OP) is seeking a qualified trainer to teach Desert Mountain Medicine (DMM) wilderness medicine courses including Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness First Aid at the USU campus in Moab, Utah. Applicants must be trained DMM instructors with current instructor credentials.
The position is expected to be employed from September through May, with the position rehired each fall. If summer course offerings become available that support continuous employment, the employment period may be extended to include the summer.
Pay is based on the courses taught and the number of courses assigned. Initially, the position is expected to teach approximately three courses as course offerings in Moab are developed and expanded. The majority of courses are expected to be offered during the spring semester, followed by the fall semester.
ResponsibilitiesInstruct and oversee all operational aspects of DMM courses hosted by USU outdoor programs in Moab, Utah and surrounding areas.
Competently deliver DMM curriculum to students.
Oversee course operation and risk management while teaching.
May be required to travel for courses on other USU campuses in Utah.
QualificationsMinimum five years of professional outdoor and/or medical experience.
Desert Mountain Medicine Lead Instructor Certification.
Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing.
Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a diverse workforce in multicultural settings.
Willing to travel for courses on other USU campuses in Utah.

Advertised Salary$900 - $2250 per course
ADAIncumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead. Employees may be exposed to unusual elements including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
