Project Manager – Mechanical (HVAC)

Location: North Salt Lake, UT (Utah-local candidates only)

Company Overview

MJ Mechanical is a Utah-based, full-service mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC design-assist, fabrication, installation, service, and maintenance for commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family projects. MJ Mechanical partners closely with owners, general contractors, and design teams to deliver high-quality mechanical systems with a strong emphasis on safety, collaboration, and long-term building performance.

About

The Role

MJ Mechanical is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in mechanical / HVAC construction to lead projects from pre-construction through close-out. This role blends estimating acumen with hands-on field leadership and full ownership of schedule, cost, quality, and client experience.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Project Manager who understands how mechanical projects are built, partners effectively with foremen and superintendents, and takes personal accountability for delivering profitable, well-executed work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical/HVAC projects from pre-construction through close-out, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, staffing plans, and procurement strategies.
  • Perform takeoffs, review production rates, and support accurate cost planning and execution.
  • Coordinate closely with foremen, superintendents, fabrication teams, subcontractors, and vendors to drive field productivity and jobsite efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, general contractors, architects, and engineers, maintaining clear communication and strong working relationships.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, pay applications, and overall project documentation.
  • Monitor job costs, margin performance, and schedule progress; proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact outcomes.
  • Partner with accounting and operations to ensure accurate WIP reporting, forecasting, and revenue recognition.
  • Conduct regular site visits and project meetings to maintain alignment, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Ensure all work complies with contract requirements, building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
  • Support project close-out, documentation, and transition to service and warranty teams.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of project execution processes.
Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of project management experience in mechanical / HVAC construction.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects from pre-construction through close-out.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and mechanical construction methods.
  • Proven experience with job costing, production rates, and financial accountability.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Utah-local candidate with the ability to be onsite as required.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with design-build and design-assist project delivery.

  • Preferred Certifications
  • PMP (Project Management Professional)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
