Electrical Engineer Proficient
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer Proficient to support the design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical subsystems for small robots and ground-based vehicles. The role involves working closely with senior electrical and mechanical engineers to develop reliable electrical system architectures and implement hardware solutions. Key responsibilities include designing electrical topologies for drive-by-wire systems, defining component placement and connectivity, and performing harness design and pin mapping (including reverse-engineering existing systems where applicable).
The engineer will also build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify wiring harnesses and electrical systems while applying principles of electronics, electrical circuitry, and testing methodologies. The role may also involve programming embedded or electronic modules, supporting system bring-up, and working with developmental electronic components and test equipment. The engineer will typically work under the guidance of senior staff while operating with increasing independence and technical proficiency.
- Design electrical system diagrams, including wiring harnesses and schematics
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers on harness routing and electronic module placement
- Develop and support embedded module programming (C and basic logic-based programming)
- Assemble, test, and validate wiring harnesses, electronic modules, and electrical components
- Troubleshoot electrical prototypes and resolve functional issues
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical failures in operational equipment and implement corrective actions
- Interpret wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system modifications
- Repair and replace defective circuitry and electronic components using hand tools and soldering equipment
- Test electronic units using standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, protocol analyzers, power supplies)
- Analyze test results and recommend adjustments or design improvements
- Document electrical testing activities and support preventive maintenance and calibration activities
- Stay current with industry tools, technologies, and best practices through training and research
Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in electronics systems integration and troubleshooting
- Strong hands-on experience with test equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, protocol analyzers, power supplies)
- Experience in CAD and circuit design tools
- Knowledge of harness building and testing per IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards
- Understanding of electrical wire routing and system integration
- Basic mechanical assembly experience preferred
- Experience using hand tools and soldering equipment
- Proficiency with standard office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, and use of hands
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and climb on/off machinery
