Surgical EVS Technician
The Surgical Environmental Services Technician is responsible for performing specialized cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of all perioperative areas, including operating rooms, pre‑/post‑operative suites, and sterile core areas. This role also manages the organized distribution and storage of surgical linens and essential supplies.
Key Responsibilities- Terminal and Procedure Cleaning:
Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of surgical suites before, between, and after procedures following strict departmental and infection control protocols (e.g. AORN and CSTS guidelines). This includes cleaning surgical tables, equipment, lights, scrub sinks, walls, and floors. - Waste Management:
Safely collect, handle, and dispose of all waste, including general trash, regulated medical waste, and biohazardous materials, adhering to all hospital and regulatory guidelines. - Monthly Cleaning
- Aseptic Environment Maintenance:
Spot clean and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of all associated areas, such as hallways, locker rooms, storage rooms, and staff lounges within the surgical department. - Linen Management (The Great Fold & Distribute):
- Sort and transport clean surgical linens.
- Stock blankets into designated warmers.
- Organize and put away clean scrubs and gowns in locker rooms and storage areas.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels of cleaning supplies and PPE.
- Reporting:
Report maintenance and repair issues, equipment malfunctions, and any safety hazards immediately to the supervisor. - Safety & Compliance:
Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly. Adhere to all safety and occupational health standards, including the proper use of PPE.
- Previous cleaning, janitorial, or housekeeping experience preferred, with experience in a healthcare or sterile environment a significant plus.
- Skills:
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Strong time management skills to handle quick turnovers between cases.
- Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 50 lbs), push, and pull equipment for the duration of the shift. Must be able to tolerate frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and biohazardous materials (with appropriate PPE). - Training:
On‑the‑job training in surgical cleaning, infection control, and proper chemical use will be provided. - CSTS Certified‑Required. The required CSTS Class and Certification test can be completed at BMH as part of the training period.
