Position: Full-time/Part-time

Description: The Infection Control & Employee Health Coordinator is responsible for implementing and monitoring the hospital's infection control plan in collaboration with the UNHS Infection Preventionist and supporting the employee health program. The role ensures compliance with established protocols, promotes a culture of safety, and participates in strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the UNHS Clinic Infection Preventionist to maintain a unified infection control program and support the shared infection control model.
  • Coordinate Infection Control Committee meetings, including agenda preparation and conducting monthly meetings and annual risk assessments.
  • Conduct ongoing surveillance activities such as hand hygiene surveillance and surgical site infection tracking; analyze and report data to identify trends.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs on infection prevention best practices and PPE usage.
  • Assist in preparing medical staff reports and other internal documents related to infection control metrics.
  • Work collaboratively with departments to ensure system-wide adherence to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by providing education and resources to patients and families regarding infection prevention measures.
  • Assist with the employee health program, including new hire health screenings, annual assessments, immunizations, and the Respiratory Protection Program.
  • Respond to employee exposures to blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents, conduct follow‑up, provide counseling, and maintain confidential records.
  • Manage return‑to‑work clearance for employees after illness or injury and coordinate necessary accommodations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and other duties assigned by the Chief Quality Officer.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong foundation in infection prevention principles and practices.
  • Solid understanding of employee health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crawl, reach above shoulder level, kneel, balance, push, pull, and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs. (Lift items/patients up to 100 lbs) and perform repetitive movements with feet and hands. Must tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals, contagious organisms, blood borne pathogens, and bio‑hazardous waste.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MA, CNA, Phlebotomy or other healthcare-related certification.
  • Experience with infection control software or electronic health records (EHR).
  • Occupational health or employee health experience.
Workplace Conduct and Policies

General responsibilities include performing any tasks reasonably within the scope of the position, maintaining professionalism, respecting confidentiality, and upholding BMH policies on communication and public disclosure. Employees must adhere to all BMH confidentiality policies, refrain from engaging in conduct that causes concern or confusion among patients, and communicate complaints only through the appropriate management chain. Emails may be accessed no less frequently than once daily.

Employees are prohibited from releasing any private BMH information to media or non‑BMH entities without formal approval from the CEO.
