- Serve each and every person with amazing customer service by answering questions, providing service information, resolving concerns in a positive, helpful manner, and applying soft skills strategies.
- Collect, input, update, and scan Patient Registration demographics and documents.
- Ensure that all patient information is adequately updated at each encounter.
- Cordially answer incoming UNHS phone calls and take accurate messages, screening calls for all medical providers and taking messages for the providers.
- Be competent in scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling patient appointments. Understand appointment types and events, and the scheduling system.
- Have knowledge of different types of insurance, how insurance works, insurance verification, eligibility, copayments, deductibles, and reimbursement.
- Collect payments/co-payments at check‑in before services are rendered, and be competent in using and understanding the payment process, including opening and closing batches, posting payments, and reconciling batch and ledger at the end of each shift.
- Learn and understand dental terminology well enough to communicate necessary information to assist patients with their appointments.
- Help maintain a peaceful and orderly waiting room environment, including dealing with any frustrated patients.
- Help maintain a smooth flow of patients from the waiting room to the dental operatory and elsewhere.
- Help maintain a working relationship between the front office and clinical staff.
- Ensure the standards of dress to present a professional appearance.
- Follow all personnel policies and procedures of Utah Navajo Health System, Inc.
- Maintain patient and business confidentiality per UNHS policies, H1
PAA, and applicable law. - Perform any other tasks, projects, or duties reasonably related to UNHS and/or the employee’s employment with UNHS as requested by the supervisor or management.
- Must have at least two years of direct work experience communicating and assisting the general public; preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Ability to communicate in Navajo is preferred.
- Dental office or dental assistant experience preferred.
- Must be able to work well with others.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- MUST have an excellent work history and customer service mindset.
High School Diploma. Minimum of 2 years dental or medical front desk experience that includes insurance and prior EMR, EHR, or EDR experience is preferred. Prior dental experience, including dental assisting, is preferred. Certificates, degrees, or professional organization affiliation are preferred.

- MMR (Measles, Rubella, Mumps):
Documentation of two MMR vaccines (or MMR titers). - Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
- Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (or proof of positive PPD skin test with recent chest x-ray and treatment history).
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
- Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
- Influenza vaccine for the current year.
- Any other vaccinations as requested.
