Are you a skilled welder and fabricator who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment? Tuacahn Center for the Arts is seeking a talented Welder/Fabricator to join our dynamic Scene Shop team for the remainder of our production build season.

Located in the stunning red rock landscape of Padre Canyon in Southern Utah, Tuacahn produces world-class theatrical experiences in one of the most unique outdoor amphitheaters in the country. This onsite position offers the opportunity to combine technical craftsmanship with artistic collaboration to create large-scale scenic elements that help bring productions to life on stage.

Position Details

Position: Welder/Fabricator
Location: Ivins
Department: Scene Shop
Employment Type: Seasonal / Full‑Time Onsite
Pay Range: $21.50-$30.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level

What You'll Do

As part of our Scene Shop team, you will play a critical role in constructing and supporting scenic elements for live theatrical productions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interpret technical drawings, shop plans, and scenic construction documents
  • Perform MIG welding and metal fabrication for scenic structures, frames, and custom components
  • Cut, grind, drill, shape, and finish metal materials using a variety of fabrication tools and equipment
  • Collaborate closely with technical directors, carpenters, painters, and other shop personnel to execute complex scenic builds
  • Assist with installation, load‑ins, modifications, and repairs throughout the production process
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high artistic and structural standards
  • Help maintain an organized, safe, and productive shop environment
  • Contribute creative problem‑solving solutions during fast‑paced production schedules
Schedule & Overtime Expectations
  • Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM-5:30 PM
  • Overtime will be required during peak production, build, and technical rehearsal periods
  • Flexibility is essential, as evening and extended shifts may occasionally be necessary to meet production deadlines
What We're Looking For

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Experience with MIG welding and general metal fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and build plans
  • Knowledge of shop safety procedures and fabrication best practices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
  • Physical ability to lift materials, stand for extended periods, and work in an active shop setting
  • A positive attitude, adaptability, and strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in theatrical, entertainment, event, or scenic fabrication environments
  • Familiarity with stage automation, rigging, or scenic construction techniques
  • Experience operating shop equipment such as plasma cutters, ironworkers, or metal brakes
