Purpose and Scope
Pack and/or re‑pack a wide variety of materials. Verifies the condition code of the item to be packed and rejects those not meeting the release order requirements. Determines the type of pack required in accordance with information contained on documents and other packing and shipping instructions such as military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Reports to designated Lead, Supervisor or Manager.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes of material as per DLA regulations.
- Ensures material is properly preserved, packaged, marked and labeled in accordance with Military Standards prior to releasing material to storage or shipping.
- Selects proper size container and cushioning from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
- Conducts basic inspection/examination procedures for material.
- Reads specifications and photographs as required in the DLA contract.
- Operates Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off skids, pallets, stands and vehicles.
- Receives data from and inputs data to DSS and other automated systems, prepares basic reports.
- Counts, weighs, records data, prepares and applies tags/labels.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Minimum three months general work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the requirements of the position. No specific experience required.
- High school diploma or GED required. Experience may substitute education at rate of one year of experience per year of high school.
- Must obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
- For material requiring HAZMAT certification, must pass training requirements.
- Position may require travel.
- Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
Shop environment with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high volume of activity. Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outdoor work in hot or cold or wet weather is often required. Work environment may contain fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud.
Protective devices are required to avoid injury.

Compensation& Benefits
This is an hourly, overtime‑eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act.
The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select.
Compensation: $20.92 (estimated hourly rate; actual may vary based on experience, education, responsibilities, internal equity, market data, etc.)
