Job Description

The City of Saratoga Springs is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Maintenance IV – Parks, who will specialize in overseeing the operation, maintenance, and performance of all irrigation systems within the City's parks and open spaces. This is a full-time position with the Saratoga Springs Public Works Department of approximately 40 hours per week.

Under the direction of the Parks Superintendent, this position is responsible for managing and maintaining the City’s Weather

TRAK Central Irrigation Control System, ensuring efficient water management across all City landscapes. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in irrigation systems, with the ability to diagnose issues, perform maintenance and repairs, and oversee installation of new systems. The ability to lead and train other staff members in irrigation repairs, and other technical maintenance items.

This position plays a key role in optimizing water usage, maintaining healthy landscapes, and supporting the City’s sustainability goals. The Maintenance IV – Parks Irrigation Technician also serves as one of the City’s principal “on‑call” employees for after‑hours emergencies related to irrigation and snow removal operations.

Additionally, this position acts as a first‑line supervisor for assigned Seasonal Maintenance – Parks employees, providing guidance, training, and coordination related to irrigation system operations and landscape maintenance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides front‑line supervision to Seasonal Maintenance Workers – Parks on a project‑by‑project basis as assigned by Maintenance Supervisor – Parks, Parks Superintendent, or other City Management
  • Prioritizes and schedules work of assigned Seasonal Maintenance Workers – Parks, then monitors work progress and employee performance for accuracy and effectiveness; reports any concerns to Maintenance Supervisor – Parks and/or Parks Superintendent
  • Perform all aspects of turf management, mowing, line trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, herbicide spraying, over seeding, and sod replacement using a variety of application equipment and techniques
  • Provide care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers (i.e. planting and proper pruning)
  • Inspect City parks, play grounds and facilities to identify special maintenance and care needs
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools
  • Repair and installs irrigation systems
  • Remove graffiti and repairs vandalism of City property
  • Clear snow off park sidewalks, and other City walkways, and assist in snow removal of City streets and facilities. Perform maintenance on snow removal equipment
  • Perform winter projects
  • Schedules and monitors irrigation system on city property
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Six (6) years previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field.

Special Qualifications &

Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Driver’s License, with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
