Job Summary: As a grocery store produce worker, you are responsible for maintaining the freshness, quality, and appearance of the produce section. You will assist customers, stock shelves, rotate products, and keep the area clean and organized.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive deliveries of fresh produce and inspect items for quality and freshness.
- Stock shelves, bins, and displays with fruits, vegetables, and other produce items.
- Rotate products to ensure that older items are sold first (first in, first out, or FIFO).
- Regularly inspect produce items for signs of spoilage, damage, or overripeness.
- Remove any unsellable items from the shelves to maintain product quality.
- Follow safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent contamination and maintain cleanliness.
- Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to customers, answering questions about produce items, their origin, and how to select ripe products.
- Offer recommendations and suggestions for recipes or meal ideas based on available produce.
- Ensure that all produce items are correctly priced and labeled with accurate product information.
- Update price tags as needed and make sure they are easy for customers to read.
- Create appealing displays to attract customers, showcasing seasonal produce and promotions.
- Rotate displays to highlight different products and maintain a visually appealing department.
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or excesses to the store manager.
- Assist in placing orders for produce items to replenish stock as needed.
- Keep the produce section clean, including display cases, shelves, and storage areas.
- Remove trash and empty containers regularly.
- Replace paper towels for hand washing. DO NOT use dish rags to dry your hands on.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene guidelines, including proper handling and storage of produce.
- Comply with health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain proper daily personal hygiene.
- Understand proper protection and coverage of any bandages on arm, and hand.
- Stay home if you are sick and contagious.
- Any smoke/vape breaks are to be taken outside the building. DO NOT smoke or vape in any coolers or bathrooms. If caught smoking or vaping in building it will be grounds for immediate dismissal and or termination.
- If you are sick you will need to do your best to cover your shift, but you need to give us at least a 2 hour notice.
- In the instance of a work place accident, or injury we reserve the right to do a drug test.
- You are expected to come to work with company shirt and name badge.
- Levis or slacks are expected to be worn to work. Absolutely NO leggings, sweat pants, or pants with holes in them.
- You need to wear appropriate shoes for your department.
- Hair needs to be up in ponytail or hat.
- Must do online within 2 weeks of employment and turn in to Colleen in back office with the digital copy and then the blue card when it comes in the mail.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of various fruits and vegetables, including how to select and store them.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy boxes or bins of produce.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining product quality.
- Basic math skills for pricing and inventory management.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced and sometimes physically demanding environment.
- Ability to get and keep a food handlers permit.
