Overview
B.H. Inc. is seeking a high-level HDD Operator for our western U.S. operations. This role is based out of the Wasatch Front, UT, but requires a professional ready for a 90% travel schedule. We offer a competitive wage of $29.00 – $39.00 per hour (starting floor adjusted for experience and CDL status), project-specific per diem, and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, a 401k match, and PTO.
Essential Duties & OperationsThe HDD Operator works directly with the HDD Foreman to execute large-scale utility projects, primarily handling larger pipe sizes such as 6, 8, 12, and 24-inch pipe. You will operate advanced Ditch Witch equipment, including the JT25, AT60, and JT60, and must demonstrate expert proficiency with various locating systems, including the Falcon F5, to guide the drill bit and ensure precise bore path execution.
Your responsibilities include performing pre-operational checks, routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and executing necessary tooling changes for varied ground conditions. Additionally, you will lead utility pot-holing to safely verify underground locations before drilling begins and adhere to all safety protocols and regulations related to drilling and excavation.
- Candidates must be prepared for a 90% travel probability, with drill teams typically staying out for four to six weeks at a time.
- Current projects are located across Utah, Colorado, California, and Idaho.
- Typical schedules often involve four weeks on and two weeks off, though this varies by job duration and client requirements.
- Hours are job-dependent, generally ranging from Monday through Saturday (8 AM – 5 PM), with Sundays traditionally off.
- Initial travel to a job site is paid; personal travel home during a project is not covered.
- Minimum of three (3) years of dedicated experience as an HDD Operator.
- Valid Class A CDL required (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Extensive knowledge of HDD techniques and ground conditions; expert proficiency with Falcon F5 and Ditch Witch controls.
- Safety-conscious, organized, and capable of analytical problem-solving for real-time bore path adjustments.
- Must be able to travel extensively for extended periods of time.
